So, I have run into two, opposing weather predictions this week. One, it was snowing and the sun was shining at the same time on January 31st, and according so some old folks, that means it will snow on March 31st. But, on the other hand, the groundhog did not see his shadow this morning and that means an early spring. How can we have an early spring and have snow on March 31st, which is after the first day of spring? Even Ma Nature is getting confused by global warming. Mind you, I am hoping and praying that groundhog is right.
We have had some bitterly cold temps this week. Thursday morning it was 4 degrees F when I left for work with a windchill of -15F. Cold enough to freeze nose hairs and make your fingers go numb pretty quickly. When it gets that cold, we have to run a trickle of water in the upstairs bathroom to keep the water lines from freezing. Also, I have noticed that Pete hugs the vent under the kitchen sink pretty closely most of the time. This morning it was 14 degrees F when I left for work (yes, I am working on Saturday) and my finger tips hated it.
I am curious, what weather-related old wives tales are from your area and how do they pan out?

We are entering a warmer cycle here finally. The weather cycles about every 20 years for warmer and then freezing winters. We are going to enjoy the warmer now! Good I say!
(I think Global Warming is the result of a narcissistic society that forgets the weather has cycled long before the industrial age.)

We watch our wooly worms here in Central Illinois in the fall.

I don’t know if you have them where you live, I grew up in Virginia and never heard of them til I moved here.

Brrrrr! That sounds so cold! We had a couple weeks of unusually cold weather…lows in the 20′s and highs in the 40′s. We’ve been back up into the 70′s this week. I think we even hit 80 one day. It started cooling back down today though. Highs should be in the 60′s for the next 10 days or so. I hope it warms up there very soon. Those temps sound wayyyyy too cold! Stay warm and take care!

That’s bitter weather, babe. I would be right up next to the vent with Pete.
Weather wisdom? Well, if the wooly bear caterpillars have wide orange bands, the winter will be hard. If the squirrels bury lots of nuts, it’s gonna be cold. You never plan anything for outdoors before July 7th.
