Aug 4

I had intended to post yesterday, but it never happened.  It’s just as well as it would have told half a story.  Now I can tell it all.

I finished knitting the My Constant Companion bag yesterday.

I was huge!  I think the measurements are 15″ high, 12″ long and 9″ wide.  Also, the knitting was very lose as it was knit with worsted weight yarn on size 11 needles.  Last night, I knit up the two I-cord straps and a pocket to go on the outside.

Today, I couldn’t wait any longer and turned up the water heater.  It took a cycle and a half in the washing machine with no spin-out in between to get it to where I thought it should be.

Here it is blocking.  The sticks poking through the holes for the straps are actually two wooden spoons, but their handles were the perfect size.  The clips are holding the top into the correct position, and it has DVD’s in the bottom to keep the bottom flat.  The bag is filled with plastic shopping bags to fluff it up while it sits on the drying rack.  I’ll give it a few turns so that each side is by the fan.

Here are the felted straps and pocket for the outside.

As soon as it has dried, I’ll sew the pocket onto the outside (using the same yarn to sew it into place) and get the straps threaded through the holes.

What do you think about giving it a light brushing as well to raise a bit of a nap?  Or should I just leave it as it is?

So, once again, I’m at the hard place – waiting!

And I already have my next big project lined up.

See the vest on the cover of the Autumn 2013 Creative Knitting magazine?  That’s it!  I have the yarn the pattern suggests for it, but not in these colors.  Sandy, Colette and I want to knit it together.  Sandy has yarn as well, in different colors than I have, so we all have some choices to make.  I’ll let you know what I decide to do mine in.  Right now, I am leaning toward black, dark purple, rust, green (the same rust and green as the bag I just finished) and lavender.  I also have an orange, but it is too bright for what I want.  I’ll save the orange for something else.

Actually, this issue has three other projects in it I want to do – two sweater vests and one sweater – all with different colors – and there is a long coat that I keep looking at, too.  Luckily, I have everything I need in my stash already, so I gain clothes and reduce stash at the same time.
